The Houston Zoo

I recently took a visit to the Houston Zoo while I had some down time in my schedule.  It was a rather cold day to go to the zoo but the animals didn't seem to mind as much as I did considering they were all out and fairly active.  I brought my 1d mkIII and 50mm 1.2L and 100mm 2.8L IS Macro along with me to grab some snap shots of some of the animals.  All in all I was happy with how they turned out given the overcast conditions I faced.

Brown Bear Getting Into The Christmas Spirit...

Brown Bear was sporting a new jingle bell collar and I figured I would snap a few pictures with my 1d mkIII and 50 f1.2L.

St. Kitts- Banana Bay

Well as my time in St. Kitts is coming to an end I realized I didn't have any photographs of one of my favorite beaches in St. Kitts; Banana Bay.  The beach is located on the far end of the peninsula, off to the right of Cockleshell and Reggae Beach.  The entrance to the beach is a bit hidden if you are driving straight to it but you can park at Cockleshell and walk to it.  The water is as clear as can be with some great snorkeling just off the shoreline.  One of my favorite parts of this beach is the fact that you are typically the only one there making it one of the most relaxing and calming places in St. Kitts.  All shots were taken with my 1d mkIII and 17-40 f4L.

Brown aka Kool-aid...

We were lucky enough to have Brown become a pack member in late November 2009.  He initially presented for what was thought to be TVT.  After some testing was performed he was diagnosed with cutaneous hemangiosarcoma with metastasis present in his lungs.  The preputial mass which had been slowly growing for nearly 9 months was finally removed yesterday (12-09-09) removed at ROSS university community practice.  He will have a few days to heal and then chemotherapy will follow.  Brown is one the best dogs I have ever had the chance to be around.  He should really be called Mr. Freeze because he is so chill and calm.  Right now we are going to give him the best chance to beat the cancer while maintaining a good quality of life.  We hope he pulls through.  These shots were taken with my 1d mkIII and 50mm 1.2L

WRX's Last Beach Day In St. Kitts...

Last Wednesday Rex boarded American Airlines, with my brother, and made the trip from St. Kitts to New York where he will reside till I come back to New York in late December. Before he left I wanted to get a few more beach shots of Rex so we went to the beach and I brought the 1d mkIII and 70-200 f4L IS combo. The sun was starting to go down which made for some great natural lighting. All in all I got the shots I wanted and he had a blast playing with his buddies on the beach.

Booby Island Adventure

We decided to go out in search of sharks in St. Kitts. Booby Island is located in the channel between St. Kitts and Nevis. It has been known to be inhabited by a wide array of sharks so that is where we decided to go. We used pig blood (pictured above using the canon G10 and underwater housing) and chum to attempt to lure some sharks close enough to the boat to photograph them. The pig blood was one of the most putrid smelling things on earth and if there were any sharks near they would have smelt it for sure. The entire boat nearly vomited when we dumped some out into the water. While we were waiting for the sharks to come we spent some time fishing and caught 7 gar as pictured above. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any sharks but we did have a great time hanging out and stopped on the way back to do swim for a bit.
