The weather was perfect, the track was very technical and fast and the competition was fierce; I could not have asked for a better weekend of racing. There were a fair number of roll overs and lots of broken parts which kept things interesting. The race teams did all they could to keep their rigs finishing the event. A few teams even worked late into Saturday night to fix the damages from the day and to allow for them to be back on the track Sunday. All in all it was a great weekend and I wanted to thank MOROC for putting on the event. Most of the shots were taken with my 1d mkIII and 100mm 2.8L IS Macro.
Everywhere you look right now in Texas you will see a field of Bluebonnets. So I went out with my 1d mkIII and 100mm 2.8IS L and found this bee busy spreading the pollen and thought it was an interesting shot. I will be going out a few more times while I have some down time in my schedule and shooting some more macro shots.
It has been quite some time since I have had time to post up any updates to my blog. My current schedule has kept me very busy so I can't complain but I wanted to load some recent snap shots with my 1d mkIII and 100mm f2.8 IS L. These shots were taken without a tripod and the help of only 1 flash (580 ex II). I can not say a single bad thing about this lens besides that I regret not buying it sooner. I am going to be posting a lot more macro shots in the near future as I have rekindled my love of macro photography.

I recently took a visit to the Houston Zoo while I had some down time in my schedule. It was a rather cold day to go to the zoo but the animals didn't seem to mind as much as I did considering they were all out and fairly active. I brought my 1d mkIII and 50mm 1.2L and 100mm 2.8L IS Macro along with me to grab some snap shots of some of the animals. All in all I was happy with how they turned out given the overcast conditions I faced.
Well as my time in St. Kitts is coming to an end I realized I didn't have any photographs of one of my favorite beaches in St. Kitts; Banana Bay. The beach is located on the far end of the peninsula, off to the right of Cockleshell and Reggae Beach. The entrance to the beach is a bit hidden if you are driving straight to it but you can park at Cockleshell and walk to it. The water is as clear as can be with some great snorkeling just off the shoreline. One of my favorite parts of this beach is the fact that you are typically the only one there making it one of the most relaxing and calming places in St. Kitts. All shots were taken with my 1d mkIII and 17-40 f4L.

We were lucky enough to have Brown become a pack member in late November 2009. He initially presented for what was thought to be TVT. After some testing was performed he was diagnosed with cutaneous hemangiosarcoma with metastasis present in his lungs. The preputial mass which had been slowly growing for nearly 9 months was finally removed yesterday (12-09-09) removed at ROSS university community practice. He will have a few days to heal and then chemotherapy will follow. Brown is one the best dogs I have ever had the chance to be around. He should really be called Mr. Freeze because he is so chill and calm. Right now we are going to give him the best chance to beat the cancer while maintaining a good quality of life. We hope he pulls through. These shots were taken with my 1d mkIII and 50mm 1.2L
Before he left I wanted to get a few more beach shots of Rex so we went to the beach and I brought the 1d mkIII and 70-200 f4L IS combo. The sun was starting to go down which made for some great natural lighting. All in all I got the shots I wanted and he had a blast playing with his buddies on the beach.

~Dan Honovich PhotographyDan Honovichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11047451262033992305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5940769399470610069.post-30826837633210029392009-10-11T15:29:00.004-04:002009-10-11T15:42:24.683-04:00Booby Island Adventure
We decided to go out in search of sharks in St. Kitts. Booby Island is located in the channel between St. Kitts and Nevis. It has been known to be inhabited by a wide array of sharks so that is where we decided to go. We used pig blood (pictured above using the canon G10 and underwater housing) and chum to attempt to lure some sharks close enough to the boat to photograph them. The pig blood was one of the most putrid smelling things on earth and if there were any sharks near they would have smelt it for sure. The entire boat nearly vomited when we dumped some out into the water. While we were waiting for the sharks to come we spent some time fishing and caught 7 gar as pictured above. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any sharks but we did have a great time hanging out and stopped on the way back to do swim for a bit.Dan Honovichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11047451262033992305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5940769399470610069.post-24073604400573270532009-09-06T14:09:00.002-04:002009-09-06T17:20:38.805-04:00St. Kitts- Cockleshell Beach

Cockleshell Beach is one of the nicest beaches in St. Kitts. It is everything you picture when you think of a Caribbean beach with its blue water, white sand and palm tree filled beach. Lion's is a place to hang out and enjoy real Caribbean food and drinks while at Cockleshell and there is also Spice Mill which is a newer more classy place to do the same. Either way you can't go wrong. While relaxing on the beach you get to see St. Kitts sister federation, Nevis, off to the distance as pictured above. In fact 99% of the time you will be the only person on this beach. This is due to the fact that the water is very rough and has a very strong rip tide which has claimed several lives. I often bring our pack of dogs here to let them run free. This beach is also a very popular sea turtle nesting site so you must tread lightly to keep from disturbing their nests. I was always a fast car guy but when I came to St. Kitts for school (Ross University of Veterinary Medicine) I stumbled across a 1995 Jeep Wrangler 2.5l 5 speed. It took only a few weeks before I became a diehard Jeep nut and I recently purchased a 1987 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0 HO swap, d44s and a bunch of other modifications for when I come back to the states. Needless to say I don't think I will ever be without atleast one Jeep in my garage. Although I will be adding another Mitsubishi Evolution to my garage but not until I am done with clinics. The PAM (People's Action Movement) party represent the yellow and are the party trying to take over the government while the red represents the Labour party that is currently in power. I try to stay out of politics but it will be interesting to see how the elections turn out whenever they are finally held.
